In this past week's Yated Neeman (y'ated neeman) the story of a "Palestinian" man, born of a Jewish convert to Islam, was told. Salim always thought that Jews were in a distant, evil village where his mother came from. But when he went to work in Tel Aviv he began to rediscover his Jewish roots and eventually became a practicing Jew after many difficulties in acceptance due to his Palestinian ethnicity. He recently married a Jewish girl from Brazil... At the opposite extreme comes this. I almost said how I wished Jewish law required both parents to be Jewish for the child to be so, but then I remembered the heartwarming story of Salim... |
