A Blog of Wrath
LINKSWar is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. --John Stuart Mill Now I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. You won it by making the other poor dumb bastard die for his country. --Gen. George S. Patton If we don't want the world's wealth to be controlled by people with money then the alternative is to have the world's wealth controlled by people with guns. Governments have plenty of guns. --P.J. O'Rourke Beer is evidence that G-d loves us and wants us to be happy. --Ben Franklin

On the kipa issue, I will quote Dr. Anthony Beukas, dictator for life of the Speech and Drama department, "You guys don't know what seperation of church and state is - you guys think that you can stop people from not covering their heads..." Mr Zack Streit was heard to say at the Leadership Shabbaton a fortnight past, that he feels that we should fine students who don't cover their heads. Now I don't know much about law, and Joe can help me out here, but I smell a lawsuit. For serious consideration, Beukas did tell me that rabbis have complained to him that students don't cover their heads in the morning Jewish classes, which, if true, I would find an unacceptable sign of disrespect. I can't even go into the Alamo with my head covered... But overreaction to this issue is not the answer, and perhaps a defined legal policy by the school would be in order (I'm not sure if suggested wear is a strong enough wording), and then be done with it. There's nothing they can do. Another interesting phenomenon I've noticed this year is many more piercings and longer hair and pony-tails among the male population... A cultural tidal wave is coming... That was semi-coherent, right? Thursday, October 24, 2002
So what's this about the Instapundit quoting something from the (YC) Commentator? That's what The Shwartz Bard said, but i didn't find it . . . Wednesday, October 23, 2002
damn it, you conservatives know everything, but it's ok, i'm converted already. One thing i do know is that scientists and doctors today do know a whole lot about what cancer is, how it happens, the whole process, and what are things that can cause it. I don't know if we're exposed to more carcinogens and more carcinogenic situations today than before, but the whole molecular/cellular/genetic biology information that is known and being researched todat has got to be relevant. (I also wonder what statistics would look like if you subtracted smokers from the whole equation.) Also, please do keep us informed of the coat hanger situation. Tuesday, October 22, 2002
You need to fix the radiophibia link. (Maybe switch to espresso.) Although i kind of wonder about that, the cancer rates have gone up so dramatically the last 50 yrs--something has to be the cause. Maybe it's several things, but surely the increase in technology, electromagnetic-radiation, all kinds of things, must have something to do with it. My opinion: the pace of technology moves faster than medicine can catch up with it. |
